A residential building in the town of Ulsoor in Bangalore collapsed on Friday morning after rains hit the city the day before. All four residents of the building were safely evacuated before it collapsed, BBMP officials said.

As Bengaluru City Police and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials assess the damage, residents of the area told DH three vehicles were damaged. A 50-year-old man and a family of three were occupants of the building.

Shankar, a resident, said BBMP officials had neither inspected them nor warned them of the building collapse. “There was no sign of the building collapsing earlier. It was a sudden shock to us,” he said. “We left all of our household appliances and everyday items inside the building. We hope that BBMP officials will allow us to recover some of our property which is under the debris. “

BBMP officials are wondering if residents of adjacent buildings should be evacuated before starting debris cleanup work.
