Firefighters fight a three-alarm fire in an apartment building in Taranto

There is a large first responder presence in Tarentum early Thursday morning after a fire broke out at the Golden Towers Apartments. First responders were called to the 200 block of Allegheny Street around 3:15 a.m. The Allegheny County 911 dispatch said it was a three-alarm fire and was not there was no transport from the premises. Brad James, deputy chief of Eureka Fire Rescue EMS, told Pittsburgh Action News 4 that the fire started in a third-floor apartment and did not spread to other units. Residents told first responders the fire started on a couch, but that has yet to be confirmed by firefighters. Some residents were evacuated from the building. As of 5:30 a.m., most residents are allowed back into the building. Chief James said most residents are elderly. No injuries were reported. Golden Towers Apartments is part of the Allegheny County Housing Authority. According to the ACHA website, the building is eight stories tall and has 60 units. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
