Construction underway on a new affordable housing development in Hanford

Currently, about twenty houses are under construction. They are two bedrooms, one bathroom and will be fully furnished.

HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) — What was once an empty lot on 10th Avenue in Hanford will soon be a thriving community.

“I’m just super excited,” says Dave Clevenger, CEO of Pre-Fab Innovations. “We’re looking forward to getting in there, doing it, and having people live there.”

South Hanford Courtyard Community Development is intended to help those struggling to find a place to call home.

“There are many reasons why people become unstable in their housing,” Clevenger said. “When they fall into homelessness, they are faced with a whole hoax of negative things and to get out of that there is a great need for capacity building.”

Clevenger says the Kings Gospel Mission has been working on the project for several years and cannot wait for its completion.

Currently, about twenty houses are under construction. They are two bedrooms, one bathroom and will be fully furnished.

He says their long-term goal is even more exciting.

“There will be commercial space for rent, so there is activity there,” he said. “It’s meant to be a place where people can live, work and belong. It’s meant to be a supportive environment.”

According to the Mayor of Hanford, this is a sub-community that can make all the difference.

“Organizations work together like this, and Project Room Key also helps with transitional housing,” says Francisco Ramirez. “It’s about lending a hand, not giving.”

The Kings County Social Services Agency helps with calls and applications for people interested in living in the community.

It should be ready in March.
